The 6th meeting of the EASD study Group on Genetics of Diabetes (EASDSGGD) took place from the 11th to 13th of May in Leiden, Netherlands. This meeting provides world class research with typically 100-130 delegates. Owing to the NBS support I was able to join this interesting conference.
The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) was founded in Montecatini, Italy in 1965. It comprises scientists, physicians, laboratory workers, nurses and students from all over the world who are interested in diabetes. The study group SGGD is one of many study groups in EASD with the main goal to promote research into the genetic basis of diabetes, and to promote and transfer knowledge between scientists and the clinical community.
This year, the meeting was held in Leiden, which is a small city with a population of approximately 120 000 people and have been considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. The subtitle of the EASD-SGGD symposium was "genetics of diabetes and its role in precision medicine", thus there was a special focus on how research of genetic causes of diabetes can provide new knowledge on precision medicine within the field of diabetes.
